Patches of loss of skin pigmentation can occur, distributed anywhere on the body.  On the face and hands it is more obvious.  The cause is often unknown or it may be a result of autoimmune disease, that is, antibody formation.  The usual pigment production in the skin fails in local areas and this can become quite extensive.

Treatment is often difficult or not successful. Punch graft techniques may help. Camouflage makeup disguises it.
